Yosuke Kuroda, Seiji Mizushima, and character designer Yun Kouga all were featured in the special Gundam 00 panel to answer questions for fans. Currently, Gundam 00 has finished its second season, and now the creative team is working on a Gundam 00 movie.

One of the more interesting questions asked was the conflict between making such a politically-themed and complex series like Gundam 00 which is also meant to sell a lot of toys and merchandise for Bandai. Mizushima talked about telling Bandai to give him designs and ideas for toys they could get out of the way first to appease Bandai, but that fans should still buy the Gundam models because they are very cool.

In response to a question about the character of Graham, Mizushima said Graham will have a bigger role in the movie. In regards to the movie itself, the staff talked about the Gundam-meisters facing off against non-humans. This has brought about rumors about the idea of aliens being incorporated to the Gundam saga which is pretty unheard of. Mizushima also talked about the comparisons with Gundam Wing which he had not seen before and he trusted his staff to let him know if it was too similar to that series.

I did ask the 00 staff guys what there favorite babes were. Kuroda-san said he favors the newscaster babe, and Mizushima likes Nena and Shirin. Kouga said her favorite Gundam pilot is Tieria.

The staff talked about the dinner party where Gundam 00 was received. From the sounds of it, a lot of people got drunk and partied and that's how Gundam 00 happened. Kouga talked about being called by Kuroda and Mizushima to be the lead character designer for the series.

And that about wraps things up for the Anime Expo. While its been an interesting and if at times rough year for the industry, hopefully it will hang around a while longer. The anime industry looks like its moving back to a more niche, cult business model at this point. The audience and fanbase is still out there, but we aren't seeing as much anime on TV as we did 2-3 years ago. That could all change again very soon, but we'll see. There's still a lot of great upcoming projects and massively talented creators telling great stories. I'm waiting with baited breath to find out what new Trigun is more than anything.
